He considered not telling the truth but finally to the man his pig was weened on milk. He was taught the value of being an honest person and not lying as when he felt that raising his pig on milk was not fair when entering a best pig contest when asked how he got his pig so big. He was taught not to spend his money foolishly on wants but to spend it in ways that increased in value such as on a baby pig that he could sale for four dollars as opposed to lemonade that would be gone in one day. He learned the value of money as the fifty cents given to Almanzo was expressed as a day’s worth of work. It had interesting stories as certain values were taught to Almanzo by his father.
